MURAKAMI

  • Haruki Murakami is a bestselling Japanese author who was born in Kyoto in 1949. As a kid, he grew up in Kobe, Japan, with his parents, two Japanese literature teachers, and spent a lot of his time with Western literature and music. He studied theater at Waseda University in Tokyo. He has won numerous literary awards, including the Franz Kafka Prize for Kafka on the Shore.

To date, he has written 12 novels, the most popular of which include The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Norwegian Wood, and Kafka. His simple, yet poignant writing style explores common themes of loneliness, love, and the surreal.
